You’ve probably heard of the Will-o’-the-Wisp—those flickering lights that lure travelers off the path.

Here in Louisiana, we call it the Feu Follet, and depending on who you ask, it’s swamp gas… or something far stranger.
In my years as a tour guide, I’ve heard one story more than any other: it’s the ghost of a pirate, still guarding his treasure, still leading the curious into the dark.

This is the next chapter in our Gulf South Folklore series—and yes, we’re still using AI voiceovers. Why?
Because my house is full of children, two barking dogs, one meowing cat, a chorus of squeaky rats, a flock of cackling chickens… and a ghost named Alan who occasionally turns lights on during editing.

So while the voice may sound a little digital, I promise: there’s a human (and one very nosy spirit) behind the scenes.

I thought I had a solid handle on Louisiana folklore…

Then I stumbled across the Letiche—an eerie, swamp-dwelling creature I’d never even heard of.

Aquatic, reptilian, and steeped in haunting origin stories, this one gave me chills.

This is the first in a new series exploring Paranormal Creatures of the Gulf South, where I’ll dive into local legends, cryptids, and entities that slip between folklore and fear.

Also—real talk? You’ll hear an AI voiceover in this video.

Between the kids, the dogs, the cat, chickens, rats and what I think might be a ghost squeaking in the walls, recording my own voice just isn’t realistic right now.

So yes, I’m using AI tools… but there’s a real human (hi, it’s me) behind every word, every case file, and every eerie moment you see here.

One day he followed her to her Cajun grandmother's house, but memere knew just what to do. Who was he? A cajun ghost? A voodoo man? In the interest of full disclosure I obviously used ai to generate the image for this video. I set the prompt the way he was described to me and this is what it came up with. I often use my own photographs and videos or stock images for my video, but in this case there is just nothing that fits what was described to me so this is what it is. Maybe you all have heard of him before, because this is a new one for me!

What do these haunted places have in common?

Cold spots.
Sudden drops in temperature.
Patterns that make no physical sense—unless something unseen is standing there.

Thermal imaging helps us explore the difference between what’s imagined… and what might really be watching us.
